The National Weather Service in St Louis has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
Pike County in west central Illinois...
northwestern Calhoun County in southwestern Illinois...

* until 1245 am CDT

* at 748 PM CDT... Doppler radar indicated a thunderstorm producing
heavy rain across the warned area. Up to one and a half inches of
rain has already fallen in 30 minutes or less. Flash flooding is
expected to begin shortly.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Pittsfield... Barry... Griggsville... Pleasant Hill... Atlas...
Clarksville... Pike... Belleview... Independence... Bedford...
Montezuma... Hull... Martinsburg... New Canton... Nebo... Kampsville...
Milton... Kinderhook... Baylis and Pearl.

Additional rainfall amounts of one to two inches are possible in the
warned area.

This includes Interstate 72 between exits 10 and 35.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

Turn around... dont drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

the Illinois River at Hardin
* at 10:30 am Monday the stage was 29.9 feet.
* Flood stage is 25.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
* The river will hold nearly steady through midweek then begin a
slow fall.

Excessive Heat Warning

... Excessive heat warning in effect until 9 PM CDT Tuesday...

The National Weather Service in St Louis has issued an excessive
heat warning... which is in effect until 9 PM CDT Tuesday. The
heat advisory is no longer in effect.

* Timing... dangerous heat index values will be reached during the
afternoon and early evening hours through Tuesday.

* Heat index values... heat index values will be near 110 degrees
due to high temperatures in the mid 90s... and dewpoints in the
mid to upper 70s.

* Impacts... the combination of hot temperatures and high
humidity will likely lead to an increased risk of heat-related
stress and illness. The very Young... the elderly... those
without air conditioning... and those participating in
strenuous outdoor activities will be the most susceptible.
Also... car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter
of minutes.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible... reschedule strenuous activities to the early morning
or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and
heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when
possible and drink plenty of water.

To reduce risk during outdoor work... the occupational safety and
health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks
in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by
heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke
is an emergency. Call 9-1-1 immediately.
